Please ensure your video follows all of the following guidelines before uploading.
For your spotlight presentations this year, there is only one format: MP4 video of the slides with a resolution of 1920x1080p preferred. This will enable us to load all talks onto the same laptop without any configuration/format issues while allowing presenters to use whatever graphics/video tools they choose to generate the presentation.
You may upload your video at a different resolution, however, the projector’s native resolution is 1920x1080p, a 16:9 format. Videos that do not fit this resolution will be resized for the presentation.
Presentations should be limited to 2 minutes and 55 seconds with the next speaker’s video starting automatically at the 3-minute mark. The videos will be automatically played in order; there will be no presenter control and the next presentation will just start. If your video is longer than 2:55 it will be truncated. If your video is not in the proper format, it will be converted as best as our automated tool will do and probably of lower quality and could even be solid black or play incorrectly at the conference, so please follow these instructions carefully.
The session chairs will not be introducing each spotlight, therefore, please ensure your video starts with a title slide. When presenting introduce yourself. There will be no time allotted for “questions” after each spotlight. As usual, any projected Text/Math should use at least 24 point font (and ideally should be >32pt) as smaller fonts will not be readable in a room with 200+ people.
In addition to your oral presentation, please remember to prepare a poster for your paper which will be presented in the interactive session following your spotlight.
Video/Slide Presentation Formatting
Talk slides need to be converted to video. You will talk during the video just as you would with the slides. The difference is that the timing will be automatic and consistent. This should be used as a visual aid to your live presentation, i.e., you will be talking in front of this video as it plays projected on the main screen. There will be a speaker’s monitor on the stage, so you can see what is being projected without turning to look at the screen. You will be allowed to bring up notes for the talk, e.g., a tablet/laptop with your presentation notes for local viewing. This format of presentation will allow you to practice your talk with the exact timing needed for the rapid short oral session.
The video should be at exactly 2 min and 55 sec long (no more, no less). It should start with a title slide which you can extend in timing to fit the exact 2:55. The video MUST be named PAPERID.MP4 and should be an Mpeg4 with 1920×1080 resolution (preferred), with H264 encoding. (H264 is the default codec for almost all MP4 encoders). It should NOT be an AVI file or a MOV but proper MP4 — and you cannot just rename it to convert it). You should not record your narration. If you talk requires audio in your presentation, email email@example.com.
You might use Youtube or FFMPEG to convert formats.
If you prepare your presentation using PowerPoint you can time your slides and save the presentation as a WMV video directly from PowerPoint. You will then need to convert the WMV video into MP4 (e.g. via Youtube or FFMPEG).
Alternatively, there are many free screen capture programs that directly produce proper MP4:

- OBS- https://obsproject.com/
- Tinytake- (http://tinytake.com/) for Windows.
- For Mac there is the built-in QuickTime, which will need to be exported as MP4 because the QuickTime default is MOV).
- For Mac users using keynote
- Keynote now. Fabian Mentzer says youYou can do Play > Record Slideshow…, then record it. This seems to just record timestamps. But then you do File > Export to Movie, select “Slideshow Recording”, Custom resolution (1920×1080). This puts a H.264-encoded video in an m4v, which can be turned into a mp4 with ffmpeg as below
If you have an mp4 or m4v file after your encoding you can upload that directly. If you only have video recorders producing other formats, e.g. avi or wmf , Youtube may be able to convert for you (upload then download) or convert using FFMPEG ( https://ffmpeg.org/
- ffmpeg -i source_video.avi -acodec aac -c:v libx264 -crf 16 -s 1920×1080 -t 4:55 -preset slow -s 1920×1080 PAPERNUMBER.mp4
- One can even use FFMPEG to create a video from slides, but screen recording is far easier.
A reminder, name your file PAPERNUMBER.mp4 where PAPERNUMBER is your CVPR paper number/ID. After upload, you will receive an email and after a day or so, you can use the link in that email to see how our computers transcoded your file and check that we have a good copy. If you upload a second time it will simply overwrite your original file, so if you want to update the file just upload a second time.
If you do not see an email after your submission, check your SPAM folder.
After upload you will receive an email (ideally within 24-48hrs) with a link to the file. Note with high server loaded expected it might take a while to transcode your video which is done before we send the link.
